August in the Mountains, Arizona

August in the Arizona metro areas is hot and sticky! It is one of the least favorite weather months for most urban Arizonans. The average high for the Phoenix and Tucson areas is 104 and 98 respectively. It is generally the wettest month. Anyone who entices people here with the old standby saying, “but it's a dry heat” knows not to say that in August! Monsoons are a welcome relief during the oppressive heat but the humidity that helps build those monsoons can make the dry heat boasters sound like liars! You would think everyone would get in their cars and drive to one of our wonderful little oases in the desert. At our White Mountain homes in Show Low and Pinetop, the high will probably be in the mid 80's most of August. Late in the day that temps should be eased with an afternoon thundershower that will enhance the smell of pine and leave a slight chill in the air as evening approaches. Ahhh feel the cool on your skin!!. August is the beginning of the off season that will make Pinetop and Show Low sleepy little hamlets of cool and beautiful and calm for at least the next three months. If you have the opportunity you shouldn't pass up these wonderful months! Some families will find August as their last opportunity to vacation before the rigors of the new school season; so book those weekends early or try weekday stays if you can. Find the time to enjoy the bucolic tranquility of the White Mountains. If you haven't been to our places during off season, please consider it. It is a wonderful little treat!
